Calm conditions at the beginning of the 3rd round proved for excellent scoring conditions as one of the strongest fields in Hi5 Pro Tour history got underway for the final round of the Condado de Alhama Open. Romain Wattel soon got off to an amazing start carding 4 birdies in 7 holes and increased his lead to 4 shots going into the final 9 holes. However the wind that was more or less present for the entire tournament returned with a vengeance for the final 9 holes and Wattel doubled the par 4 10th followed by another bogey on 13 and saw his lead slip to 2. However the 19 year old frenchman was not at all disturbed as he made another birdie on 16 and a great par save on 17 to enjoy a 3 shot lead going into the final hole. After a superb tee shot that left him 100m to the hole, the newly turned professional hit a miraculous shot to 30 cm to the hole for another birdie and his first professional victory and the 4125 Euro cheque. Wattel recently won a Challenge Tour event in September as an amateur and was rated 3rd in the world amateur rankings. In second position was Florian Fritsch of Germany and european tour player Eirik Tage Johansen both at -5. For full results see the leaderboard on the right side of the web site.
