O’Hanlon fires a 65 to win the Al Torreal Open

Irish eyes are smiling as Paul shoots low to close out the Hi5 Pro Tour Altorreal Winter Series Tour final.

Paul O´Hanlon representing Ireland shot a superb closing round of 65 to steam up the leader board and secure the Hi5 Protour Altorreal Winter series Tour final. The 65 consisted of an impressive 8 birdies , 1 bogey and 9 pars . Paul was so pleased to secure the win in such a manner as this was his lowest ever final 18 round score of his professional playing career to date .

Close behind just one shot adrift were Iceland’s Stefan Mar Stefansson and Spain’s Ignacio Sanchez Palencia who both fought hard to get their scores into the Clubhouse at -8 in order to force a playoff with Paul. Elliott Saltman tried his best to make it a hat trick of wins for the family Saltman with a fine 66 on the final day eventually finishing in tied 5th spot.

Low amateur this week was England’s Richard Carter and low Senior this week was once again Englands Gary Wolstenholme who also finished a creditable tied 8th against the main field.

Thanks go to all the team at Altorreal for making the tour once again so welcome and presenting its course in such fine playing conditions.

The Tour now takes a small “ time out ” but is in the process of securing venues for the coming seasons schedule which all players will be notified of shortly . 13 players within 4 shots looking to close out the Hi5 Pro Tour Final Title at Al Torreal

Local Spaniard Ignacio Sanchez Palencia is the co leader on ( -5 ) along side Swedens Bjorn Pettersson after day two of the Hi5 Pro Tour Altorreal Open.
Ignacio played a 2 under par 70 to close the gap on Round 1  leader, Bjorn Pettersson in almost perfect scoring conditions .
Close on their heels going into the final round in joint second position are Englands Alex Belt , Swedens Fredrick Hammarberg , Icelands Stefan Mar Stefansson and Spains Dani Alonso.
Just 1 shot further back are current order of merit leader Mat Evans ( 66 low round of the day ), last weeks Senior winner Gary Wolstenholme ( this week playing off the back tee’s against the field ) and Spains Carlos Aguilar Quesada.
An exciting final round is expected with no fewer than thirteen players lying within 4 shots of the Hi5 Pro Tour Altorreal title .
Second lowest round of the day was produced by the much improving English amateur Richard Carter.

Bjorn Pettersson leads the Hi5 Pro Tour Altorreal Open

Bjorn Pettersson representing Sweden played a near faultless round of 68 today to take a slender 1 shot lead into the second round of the Murcia based Hi5 Pro Tour Altorreal Open. With a 1 hour suspension of play due to fog the field found scoring conditions difficult on the Dave Thomas design parkland course. 

 
Tied in second place one shot behind are Swedens Felix Fihn and local Spaniard Ignacio Sanchez Palencia.
 
A special mention must also go this week to Caroline Martins representing Norway who is competing against the men from the back tee´s  .
 
Tomorrow play continues at 08.30 from tee 1.

Another Saltman looking to keep the Condado title in the family

Stephen Shields of England fires a fine 67 in round 2

Elliot Saltman leads the Hi5 Pro Tour Condado Open after day 2 with the field playing once again in blustery wind conditions.

The Scotsman takes a one shot lead into the final round over day 1 leader Irelands Michael Collins.
Elliot is looking to keep the Condado title in the family following Lloyd,  his brothers , win last week on the Nicklaus signature course situated in Murcia.
His lead was cemented with a run of 4 birdies scored between the 11th and 16th hole today.
Leading the seniors section is Englands Stephen Shields after shooting a superb low round of the day 67. Stephens 67 included 2 eagles made on the par five 4th and 13th holes . He takes a 4 shot lead into the final round over Englands Gary Wolstenholme .

Collins leads the way at the Condado Open

Michael Collins representing Ireland was the only player to beat par today in demanding conditions over the signature Nicklaus course situated in Murcia Spain.

Michael , a last minute entry , played a solid round of 71 consisting of 3 birdies , two bogeys and 13 pars to set the pace in the Hi5 Pro Tour Condado de Alhama open.
Close on his heels just 1 shot behind are Scotlands Elliot Saltman and Fredrik Hammarberg representing Sweden.
Leading the Seniors section with a score of 73 ( +1 ) is Englands Gary Wolstenholme .
Play continues with round two tomorrow at 0800 hours.

The Champions of Condado

Lloyd Saltman from Scotland went wire to wire to capture the 2010 Polaris World Condado Open today with a 5 shot margin of victory. The middle brother of the “Saltman brothers” had tremendous composure the entire round today, reported tournament director Wayne Hachey. “You could see how cool he played his round today”, the mark of a real champion. He just got on with it and took care of business, and did not let anyone come from behind with his solid performance of 70 today and a -11 total”. European Tour player Callum Maccaulay(SCO) and Challenge Tour player Floris deVries (NED) where his nearest rivals both finished at -6. Floris deVries fired a great 65 today on the demanding Nicklaus layout. After a short frost delay, the blue skies and gentle winds provided great scoring conditions to go along with the superb putting surfaces at Condado.

The ladies section Johanna Lundberg (SWE) shot a final round 71 to win by one shot over Josefin Leijon also from Sweden.

The seniors was won by European Tour veteran Miguel Angel Martin (ESP) who displayed his usual talents and closed the event with a fine 69.

Saltman takes a commanding lead

Lloyd Saltman enjoys a 4 shot lead going into the final round of the 2010 Polaris World Condado Open after he started with 2 bogey’s to start round 2. However the middle brother of 3 which are playing this week answered with 8 birdies during the remainder of his round on route to a fine 67 on the 6800 meter Nicklaus signature course. His nearest competitor are Andreas Hogeberg (SWE) and European tour player Callum Maccaulay(SCO) who are both at -5. Cool temperatures with strong breezy winds faced the players today to go along with the slick greens made scoring not very easy.

In the ladies division ladies european tour player Josefin Leijon(SWE) took over the lead after a 75 today and holds a 2 shot lead over Mari Suusalu from Estonia and yesterdays leader Johanna Lundberg (SWE) who slipped back with a 79 today.

The final round commences at 9:00 tomorrow.

King and Saltmann share pole position

The 7th event of the 2010 Hi5 Pro Tour got underway today at newly opened Condado course, part of the Nicklaus Golf Trail at Polaris. The cool weather that has plagued most of Europe is currently also in Spain but players were greeted to bright blue skies and calm winds today. The 6800 meter course at Condado showed its strength today as only 14 players managed to shoot par or better. At the top at -4 is 18 year old Gary King from England and Lloyd Saltmann of Scotland. In second place at -2 are 4 players Richard Kind(NED), Thorbjorn Olesen (DEN), Tim Sluiter (NED) and current course record holder at Condado(61) Lasse Sonnie Nielsen the young amateur from Denmark.

In the ladies division, Johanna Sundberg from Sweden shot a 74 and holds a 2 shot margin over Josefin Leijon(SWE).

Robert Sture captures the 2010 Polaris World El Valle Open

Robert Sture from Sweden closed out his first win on the Hi5 Pro Tour today with a 2 shot margin of victory over Morten Hedegaard from Denmark. Sture shot a 73 today but his nearest competitors Miguel Angel Martin and Carlos Aguilar both shot 75’s in the final round. The swede was only 1 shot ahead going into the 16th hole but Aguilar made a triple bogey on the par 5 to see his chances slip away. Sture however made things interesting going down the 17th after a way ward tee shot ended up in the left rough and had to take an unplayable which cost him a bogey but still had a 3 shot lead going into the final hole. After a solid tee shot it was a matter of going through the motions for the professional from Goteborg and collecting his cheque of 4125 Euro.

For Hedegaard it was another solid performance after last week finishing in a play off for first and this week second on his alone. Top amateurs were Joachim B Hansen and Peter Baunsoe from Denmark both finishing at +4.

Robert Sture storms to the top

Robert Sture from Sweden fired another solid round today with a 66 to follow his 67 yesterday to take pole position with a 1 shot lead going into the final round of the 25,000 Euro Polaris World El Valle Open.  Sunny skies welcomed the players to round 2 after play was suspended due to darkness setting in late last night. Carlos Aguilar who is after revenge from his last years finish which cost him the title shot another fine round today posting a 68 which brings him -8 only 1 shot behind the Swede. Long time European Tour player Miguel Angel Martin was low man of the day with a 65 to post a -6 total showing the young new players on the Hi5 Pro tour his years of tour playing experience.

The final round will begin tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
