Due to the practice facility at La Torre (Polaris Swing Feb 16-18)not recovering to tour standards from recent cooler  weather conditions , the Hi5 Pro Tour has moved the venue site to the premier course at Polaris World, Condado de Alhama . A Nicklaus Signature course designed by the legend himself is approximately 30 minutes from the main La Torre resort. We feel this is in the best interest for the players and hope it does not cause any inconvenience to the professionals competing.

Clear blue skies welcomed the players to the final round of the opening event of the 2010 Hi5 Pro Tour season.  Robert Svensson of Sweden produced a fine round of 70 in the 2010 Villaitana Open to force a play off with overnight leader Pete James of England. The two ended the 36 hole rain shortened event both at -1 and went into a sudden death play off after both of them birdied the final hole. Both players recorded pars on the first play off hole with James narrowly missing his birdie putt leaving Svensson a chance for victory with a short birdie putt after his great second shot into the par 4. However Svensson’s putt also slipped by the right side so both players went into the second play off hole. After another precise iron shot into the green to 2 meters, Svensson did not let this chance slip by again and made the birdie putt to secure his first win on the Hi5 Pro Tour.

Tied 3rd was Kris Jones from England and last years defending champion Carlos Garcia of Spain both finishing at level par.

Low amateur for the event and low round of the day shooting a fine 67 five under par was Lasse Sonne Nielsen of Denmark.

In the seniors division Trevor Wisson of England captured his first win on the Hi5 Pro Tour.

England’s Pete James was the only player in a strong international field to shoot under par on the Jack Nicklaus Villaitana golf course. James round of 4 birdies and 2 bogeys has him out in front at -2. The 6226 meter long course along with strong gusty winds and periods of rain made it a difficult scoring day for the players. Currently in second position are 4 players at +1, Brad Clapp from Canada, defending Champion Carlos Garcia from Spain, Robert Svensson from Sweden and Sam Haywood from England. Due to the postponing of round 1 today, the event has been shortened to 36 holes, the final round will begin tomorrow at 8:30.

Heavy rain during the night has postponed round 1 of the 2010 Villaitana Open.  With weather conditions looking to improve later this evening, round 1 is scheduled to begin on Wednesday at 8:30.
